Sketching Classes

Want to create a great experience for friends or family? We offer custom classes!

Classes are limited to 4 students, so send us an e-mail, submit the form below, or give us a call at 302.645.9119 if you are interested in signing up! Due to class size limitations a 50% deposit is required to hold your spot in the class of your choice.

Sketching Level 1 (2 day course)  10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday & Sunday.

Learn to accurately sketch what you see! The primary focus will be on learning to discern tonal values and accurately reproducing proportions while sketching from life. Learn how light and shadow shape a scene. No "talent" required - the formula Abraxas presents removes the mystery of producing realistic art.

Course fee $150, materials cost an additional $20.

Sketching Level 1 extended (4 day course) 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri.

This course contains information covered in the Level 1 course as well as a deeper exploration of light and shadow. Visual demonstrations will help deepen your understanding of how lighting affects your subjects and ultimately impacts your art. Students will also learn to add depth to their works by gaining an understanding of perspective. Specific exercises will be incorporated in order to more fully understand how to sketch certain subjects such as clouds, water, reflections, and other subjects the participants are interested in. Learn how to make your art come alive! Students can take this course as a follow up to the Level 1 course (repetition is a great teacher) or as their first class.

Course fee $300, materials cost an additional $20.

Observation is a foundational skill required of the visual artist and Abraxas teaches how to hone that ability through sketching. Learning to discern the subtle variations of tone in a scene and transfer that data to a two dimensional surface is essential to the creation of representational art.  Whether creating a quick study to test a concept, laying down the outline of a painting, or executing a detailed graphite sketch, drawing that which is seen or imagined can be critical to the success of a project.

Abraxas' proven method enables even those who "can't draw a stick figure" to accurately draw any subject they desire... Experience the pride of signing a work of art you never thought you could create!

"Abraxas’ dedication to and mastery of his art clearly comes through in his courses. The small class size allows him to guide each student through the use of light and shading, tonal values, and perspective. The classes are most enjoyable. They inspire the student to continue pursuing their own artistic goals and enable the student to gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of other works of art." Jim Mulcahy

"My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the sketching class in your studio. We were both frankly amazed at both how much we learned in just two morning classes and the art we produced with our own hands. We may now have a new lifelong hobby!" Thanks again, Glenn
